Position Summary
The Senior Accountant provides advanced accounting, reconciliation, financial-management, analysis, reporting, and resource-support services to NTIA. The role works with complex Government financial information, identifies and resolves discrepancies, supports budget execution, validates financial activity, and translates detailed accounting data into reliable management information. The position collaborates closely with budget analysts, program offices, operational personnel, and Government stakeholders to improve fiscal visibility, data quality, audit readiness, and decision support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support recurring accounting and financial-management operations for NTIA programs and enterprise activities.
- Review financial transactions, accounting records, and supporting documentation for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and traceability.
- Perform reconciliations of accounts, commitments, obligations, expenditures, balances, and related financial data.
- Research discrepancies among financial systems, source documents, reports, and program records and coordinate corrective action.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, year-end, and other recurring financial-reporting cycles.
- Analyze historical and current financial data to identify trends, variances, anomalies, execution concerns, and potential financial risks.
- Prepare financial analyses, management reports, tables, charts, and briefing materials for operational and executive audiences.
- Support budget execution by monitoring the relationship among available funding, obligations, expenditures, commitments, and planned requirements.
- Provide financial data and analysis supporting staffing, resource-planning, and portfolio-management decisions.
- Coordinate and validate responses to financial data calls and other reporting requests.
- Support audit readiness by maintaining organized, traceable, and retrievable financial records and evidence.
- Assist with responses to audits, management reviews, internal-control inquiries, and other financial information requests.
- Develop and maintain repeatable accounting procedures, standard operating procedures, desk guides, and supporting documentation.
- Recommend process improvements that increase financial accuracy, transparency, internal control, timeliness, and efficiency.
- Support dashboarding and financial reporting using authorized tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, and Government financial systems.
- Work with Government systems that may include Oracle Federal Financials and related financial or administrative platforms.
- Protect sensitive financial, acquisition, personnel, and Government information and comply with applicable confidentiality and security requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Financial Management, or a related discipline.
- Approximately 5-8+ years of professional accounting, financial-management, or closely related experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, reconciliations, financial controls, and financial reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong analytical/problem-solving capability.
- Experience preparing accurate financial reports and explaining financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Federal financial-management or Federal accounting experience.
- Federal appropriations, budget-execution, or audit-readiness experience.
- Oracle Federal Financials experience.
- Power BI and/or Tableau reporting experience.
- CPA, CGFM, CDFM, or comparable professional credential.
- Department of Commerce or comparable civilian Federal agency experience.

Oracle Federal Financials / Business Application Systems, Sunflower, PRISM, SharePoint, Microsoft 365, Tableau, Power BI, E2, GovTA, ServiceNow.
Schedule and Performance Environment
- Monday-Friday during normal business hours, 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Eastern Time, excluding Federal holidays and Government-directed closures.
- Routine travel is not required.
- Specific priorities, sequencing, assignments, and levels of effort may change throughout performance based on Government direction and mission requirements.
