Position: Cloud Engineer
Location: Washington, D.C. (Hybrid – subject to mission needs)
Type: Full-Time or Part-Time
Clearance: US Citizen/TS clearance with the ability to access classified systems.
Certifications:
- IAT Level II required: (Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, CYSA+, GICSP, GSEC, CND, or SSCP)
- Preferred: Cloud certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional), Azure Solutions Architect, or Google Cloud Architect
Education:
bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. (15 years combined experience/education may be considered in lieu of a degree.)
Experience:
Minimum of 8 years of relevant cloud engineering experience, with at least 3 years supporting federal or DoD environments.
Position Overview:
The Cloud Engineer will design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure, and compliant cloud infrastructure and services supporting a large, mission-critical DoD environment. The engineer will provide technical direction on complex hybrid cloud systems and lead the evaluation of cloud service provider (CSP) offerings against DoD requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect, deploy, and manage multi-cloud solutions (AWS, Azure, GCP) aligned with DISA and DoD compliance requirements.
- Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
- Ensure alignment with DISA Cloud Computing SRG, RMF, and FedRAMP guidelines; apply DISA STIGs and cybersecurity controls.
- Lead cloud migration strategies for legacy systems into secure, scalable environments.
- Interface regularly with CSPs to track service parity, updates, and implementation of DoD configuration baselines.
- Conduct system performance assessments, monitoring, and tuning using tools like Splunk, ELK Stack, or native CSP tools.
- Participate in the design and implementation of DevSecOps pipelines and automated deployment processes.
- Collaborate with DISA directorates to coordinate Cloud Access Point (CAP) onboarding, circuit provisioning, and tactical device testing.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in cloud adoption, system hardening, and Zero Trust architecture.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
- Expertise with distributed systems and hybrid/multi-cloud environments.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure services: DNS, firewalls, load balancing, routing, switching, and AD.
- Proficiency in scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash) for automation.
- Experience in containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, ECS/EKS).
- Familiarity with DevSecOps practices, CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitLab, etc.).
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks: NIST, STIGs, Zero Trust.
- Ability to write technical documentation and articulate solutions to technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working directly with DISA, DoD, or other federal IT programs.
- Master’s degree in technical discipline.
- Experience implementing multi-factor authentication and secure identity access controls.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment with occasional on-site support.
- Requires sitting, typing, reaching, and using visual/aural communication tools.
- Moderate travel may be required.
