Position Summary

P3S Corporation is seeking an experienced Desktop Deployment Engineering Technician III to support a Department of Defense mission at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.

This is a highly hands-on technical position supporting the installation, deployment, integration, relocation, and sustainment of desktop, network, communications, and C4I/IT equipment and infrastructure.

The ideal candidate is a skilled field technician who is comfortable working beyond a traditional desktop-support environment. The position requires significant hands-on experience pulling, routing, dressing, labeling, terminating, testing, and installing cable, installing equipment racks and associated hardware, deploying workstations and peripherals, and performing installation activities in operational DoD facilities.

This position is particularly well suited for technicians with backgrounds in desktop deployment, structured cabling, telecommunications installation, low-voltage installation, C4I/IT installation, network infrastructure installation, or military communications environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Desktop Deployment & Equipment Installation

• Install, deploy, relocate, configure, and replace desktop computers, thin clients, thick clients, monitors, peripherals, and related IT equipment.
• Install and configure workstation hardware in accordance with approved installation plans and technical requirements.
• Install and physically integrate servers, network switches, routers, storage equipment, communications equipment, and other C4I/IT hardware.
• Perform equipment rack installation, equipment mounting, rack configuration, and cable management.
• Install and connect power distribution units and associated equipment.
• Perform equipment installation, removal, relocation, and technology refresh activities.
• Conduct equipment inventories and document installed assets.
• Perform power-on and basic operational testing following equipment installation.
• Support installation and integration of audiovisual equipment, monitors, displays, VTC equipment, and related peripherals when required.

Structured Cabling & Cable Installation

This position requires substantial hands-on cable installation experience.

• Pull, route, dress, secure, label, terminate, and test telecommunications and network cabling.
• Perform horizontal and vertical cable installation.
• Install structured cabling in overhead cable trays, raised-floor environments, equipment rooms, telecommunications rooms, and other approved pathways.
• Install and support copper, Ethernet, fiber-optic, coaxial, and other low-voltage communications cabling as required by the installation design.
• Perform cable management within racks, cabinets, pathways, and telecommunications spaces.
• Install, configure, and dress cables within IDF/MDF and equipment rack environments.
• Perform basic cable termination and connector installation when required.
• Conduct cable continuity and network testing using appropriate test equipment.
• Identify defective cabling, connectors, pathways, or installation conditions and assist with corrective action.
• Maintain professional cable routing, labeling, bundling, bend radius, separation, and workmanship standards.
• Assist with installation of cable trays, supports, pathways, grommets, floor penetrations, and related infrastructure.
• Support firestopping and restoration of penetrations as required by approved installation procedures.
• Perform floor-tile cuts and related raised-floor installation work when required.

Installation & Site Support

• Read and interpret Installation Design Plans (IDPs), engineering drawings, floor plans, cable schedules, schematics, rack elevations, and technical directives.
• Perform site surveys to identify installation requirements, equipment locations, cable routes, pathways, access requirements, and potential installation conflicts.
• Verify installation materials, equipment, hardware, and tools prior to beginning work.
• Coordinate installation activities with project leads, engineers, government personnel, and other contractor personnel.
• Identify discrepancies between installation drawings and actual site conditions.
• Document red-line or as-built installation changes when required.
• Troubleshoot basic equipment, cable, connectivity, and installation issues.
• Maintain installation documentation and daily work records.
• Ensure completed installations demonstrate professional workmanship and comply with applicable project standards.
• Maintain accountability of government and contractor equipment, tools, and materials.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment throughout installation activities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Active DoD Secret clearance required.
• Minimum three (3) years of directly relevant experience supporting desktop deployment, C4I/IT installation, structured cabling, telecommunications installation, network infrastructure installation, or closely related technical work.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience pulling and installing cable in commercial, industrial, military, data-center, telecommunications, or similar technical environments.
• Demonstrated experience installing IT or communications equipment.
• Experience working with equipment racks, cable pathways, cable trays, telecommunications rooms, IDF/MDF environments, or comparable infrastructure.
• Ability to read and follow technical drawings, installation diagrams, cable schedules, schematics, and written work instructions.
• Working knowledge of Ethernet and basic network connectivity.
• Experience using common technician hand tools and cable/network test equipment.
• Ability to work effectively as part of an installation crew while also completing assigned work independently.
• Ability to follow established safety, security, quality-control, and installation procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to professional workmanship.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to document completed work accurately.

Highly Desired Experience

Preference will be given to candidates possessing:

• Five or more years of directly relevant hands-on installation experience.
• Extensive experience pulling, dressing, terminating, labeling, and testing structured cabling.
• Previous work supporting Department of Defense or other federal facilities.
• Previous experience working on a military installation.
• Experience supporting C4I/IT modernization or facility technology refresh projects.
• Experience with Cat6/Cat6A copper cabling.
• Fiber-optic installation experience.
• Coaxial cable installation experience.
• Equipment rack installation and rack-and-stack experience.
• Desktop or workstation deployment experience.
• Data-center, telecommunications-room, IDF, or MDF experience.
• Experience working from government Installation Design Plans or similar engineering installation packages.
• Experience performing site surveys and documenting as-built conditions.

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree, technical school, vocational training, military technical training, or related education is preferred but not required when substituted with directly applicable experience.

Certifications

No industry certification is required for this position.

Relevant technical or cabling certifications may be considered beneficial but are not required for employment.

Physical Requirements

This is an installation-intensive position and is not limited to desk or traditional IT support duties.

The employee must be able to:

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in confined or equipment-intensive areas.
• Work from ladders or approved elevated work platforms when necessary.
• Work above ceiling spaces, under raised floors, around cable trays, and within telecommunications and equipment rooms.
• Pull and route cable for extended distances.
• Push, pull, lift, carry, position, and install equipment and materials.
• Routinely lift approximately 20–50 pounds and assist with heavier or bulky equipment.
• Perform repetitive gripping, pulling, pushing, reaching, and hand-tool operations.
• Work indoors and outdoors when installation activities require.
• Work in environments where noise, dust, construction activity, electrical equipment, or other installation hazards may be present.
• Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, protective footwear, hearing protection, hard hats, or other required equipment.

Work Environment

Work will be performed primarily on-site at Redstone Arsenal in the Huntsville, Alabama area within secure Department of Defense facilities.

The technician may work in offices, communications rooms, equipment rooms, raised-floor environments, construction areas, laboratories, warehouses, or other technical spaces depending upon installation requirements.

Work schedules may occasionally be adjusted to accommodate mission requirements, installation windows, equipment outages, or customer operational needs.

Security Requirements

The selected candidate must:

• Possess and maintain, at minimum, an active DoD Secret security clearance.
• Maintain eligibility for access to government facilities, systems, and restricted work areas.
• Comply with all government and company security requirements throughout employment.

Contract Duration

This position supports an ongoing federal contract with an anticipated period of performance through April 2029. Continued employment is subject to contract requirements, government funding, continued tasking, satisfactory performance, clearance eligibility, and other applicable contractual requirements.
