Education: Associate degree in Materials Technology, Metallurgy, Chemical Technology, or related field.

Experience: Min. of three (3) years of laboratory experience in material testing and analysis.

Project Summary

The U.S. Coast Guard Aviation Logistics Center (ALC) in Elizabeth City, NC, provides depot-level maintenance, engineering, and logistics support for approximately 200 aircraft across 28 aviation units nationwide. This contract delivers Scientific, Engineering, and Technical Services to ensure aircraft airworthiness and sustainment, focusing on corrosion management, materials testing, electrical and process engineering, laboratory analysis, and aviation system support. Skilled professionals in these fields collaborate to conduct failure analyses, enhance quality assurance, and implement process improvements that strengthen aircraft reliability and operational readiness, ensuring mission success.

Job Summary

We are hiring a Laboratory Technician to support aviation material testing, corrosion research, and laboratory operations. This role involves conducting tests, maintaining lab equipment, and analyzing material samples to improve aircraft maintenance and engineering processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform metallurgical and chemical testing on aviation materials and components.
  • Prepare material samples for failure analysis, corrosion evaluation, and coatings testing.
  • Manage laboratory chemicals and hazardous materials in compliance with safety standards.
  • Conduct Rockwell hardness tests, micro-hardness tests, and tensile strength evaluations.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments, including spectrometers, microscopes, and corrosion test equipment.
  • Support engineering teams in material selection and re-engineering of aviation components.
  • Perform coatings analysis, including thickness measurements, gloss evaluations, and adhesion testing.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Materials Technology, Metallurgy, Chemical Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of laboratory experience in materials testing and analysis.
  • Certification in Advanced Aerospace Coating Removal and Electrocoat Coater Operation Training – Level 1.
  • Strong understanding of corrosion testing, aviation coatings, and laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to work with specialized laboratory equipment, testing tools, and analytical software.
